The App Gameplan

In 4 weeks, know exactly what to build, what it'll cost, and whether it makes strategic sense. The App Gameplan is a fixed-price discovery engagement that gives you clarity before you commit to a full development programme. Your Gameplan fee is credited if you proceed to build with us.

The problem with most app projects

70% of app projects fail due to misaligned expectations. Teams rush into development without validating the core assumptions. Budgets spiral. Timelines slip. Features get cut. The final product doesn't match the original vision.

You've probably experienced this uncertainty firsthand. You have an app idea that could be transformative for your business, but you're stuck with questions:

  • Will it actually work? You've got a gut feeling, but your board needs evidence.
  • What will it look like? You can describe your vision, but stakeholders need to see and interact with it.
  • What will it really cost? You've seen quotes range from £20k to £200k. How do you know what's realistic?
  • What should we build first? The feature list keeps growing, but you don't know what matters most.
  • Can we trust the agency? You've heard horror stories of projects going over time and budget. Learn more about how we approach agency partnerships.

The App Gameplan answers all of this in a fixed-price, low-risk engagement.

What happens next?

If you choose to proceed with development, your £3,500 Gameplan fee is credited against your first development sprint. You've already invested in understanding the problem; we don't charge you twice.

If you decide not to proceed, or to build with a different partner, you keep all deliverables. The Gameplan is yours. It's a valuable technical asset you can use with any development team.

This is risk reversal. We're confident in our process. If we do good work during the Gameplan, you'll want to continue working with us. If not, you still walk away with clarity.

Who is The App Gameplan for?

The Gameplan works best for organisations that:

  • Have an app idea but need to validate it before committing significant budget
  • Need to present a credible plan to their board, investors, or CFO
  • Have received wildly different quotes from agencies and don't know what's realistic
  • Want to understand the technical approach before choosing a development partner
  • Have existing systems (CRM, ERP, databases) that the app needs to integrate with

The Gameplan is particularly valuable if you're evaluating multiple agencies. It demonstrates our approach, communication style, and technical depth before you commit to a full development programme. Many clients use the Gameplan as a comparison tool when choosing between app development agencies.

If you're already certain about what you want to build and just need developers, our Flutter development services might be a better fit. But if you need clarity first, start here.

Written by Gareth Reese, Founder and CTO of Foresight Mobile. Gareth developed the App Gameplan methodology after running discovery workshops for 100+ app projects.

How The App Gameplan works

An actionable four-week plan with clear deliverables and an unbeatable £3,500 price point, credited against your first development sprint.

Total client time commitment: 5-7 hours across 4 weeks

Week 1

Discovery Deep-Dive

We meet with your key stakeholders to understand your business goals, user needs, and technical constraints. You'll share any existing research, designs, or documentation you have.

Week 2

Technical Analysis

Our engineering team assesses the technical feasibility, identifies integration points with your existing systems, and evaluates architecture options.

We determine whether Flutter, native development, or another approach makes the most sense for your specific requirements.

Week 3

Prototype and Roadmap

We create clickable prototypes so you can experience your app before it's built. You'll test navigation flows, validate the user experience, and gather feedback from stakeholders.

Alongside this, we prioritise features based on business value and technical complexity, mapping out a phased delivery plan with a detailed cost estimate.

Week 4

Week 4: Gameplan Delivery

You receive your complete Gameplan pack, plus a presentation walkthrough with Q&A. Your team walks away with everything needed to make a confident decision.

What will you get from The App Gameplan?

A structured discovery process that transforms your app idea into an actionable plan your board can approve with confidence

Board-Ready Summary Document

A concise, non-technical document you can present directly to your stakeholders. This covers the business opportunity, recommended approach, investment required, expected timeline, and key risks.

Written for decision-makers, not developers. Your CFO will understand the financial implications. Your CEO will understand the strategic value. Your board will have the information they need to approve the project with confidence.

Executive Summary • Investment Overview • Strategic Rationale • Decision Framework

Interactive Prototype Validation

See your app before you build it. Using AI-powered prototyping tools, we create clickable, interactive mockups that let you experience the user journey firsthand. Test navigation flows, validate feature placement, and gather feedback from real stakeholders in days rather than weeks.

This isn't static wireframes. You'll interact with screens that look and feel like the real thing. Identify friction points, refine the user experience, and build confidence in your design decisions before a single line of production code is written.

Clickable Prototypes • User Flow Validation • Stakeholder Testing • Design Iteration

Icon

Fixed-Cost Development Quote

A transparent, detailed quote for the development phase, broken into phases so you can budget with confidence. No ranges. No "it depends." No hourly rates that spiral unpredictably.

Each phase includes a clear scope, fixed price, and estimated timeline. You'll know exactly what you're getting, what it costs, and when you'll have it. If your budget is constrained, we'll tell you what's achievable within it.

Detailed Scope Breakdown • Phase-by-Phase Pricing • Timeline Estimates • Budget Alignment

Prioritised Feature Roadmap

Not everything needs to be in version one. In fact, trying to build everything at once is the fastest way to blow your budget and miss your launch date. We help you identify the features that will drive the most value soonest.

Using a structured prioritisation framework, we separate must-haves from nice-to-haves. The result is a phased roadmap that delivers value incrementally, allowing you to launch faster and iterate based on real user feedback.

MoSCoW Prioritisation • MVP Definition • Phase Planning • Value-Driven Sequencing

Architecture and Integration Plan

A clear technical blueprint showing how your app will connect with your existing systems. Whether you're integrating with Salesforce, SAP, a custom database, or third-party APIs, we map out every connection point.

This isn't a vague diagram. It's a detailed plan that your internal IT team (or any development partner) can understand and implement. We identify authentication requirements, data flows, and potential integration challenges before they become expensive surprises.

System Integration Mapping • API Strategy • Data Flow Architecture • Security Requirements

Technical Feasibility Assessment

Know whether your app idea is technically achievable, and which approach fits best, before you commit budget. Should you use Flutter for cross-platform efficiency, or does your project require native iOS and Android development? Our assessment covers device capabilities, performance requirements, and offline functionality needs.

Every project has unknowns. We document risks, assumptions, and technical constraints early so there are no nasty surprises later. For each risk, we assess likelihood and impact, then recommend mitigation strategies. You'll understand the trade-offs and potential challenges before you commit to a technology stack.

Platform Analysis • Technology Recommendations • Risk Assessment • Assumption Documentation

What kind of prototype will I receive?

You'll receive a clickable, interactive prototype that simulates your app's core user journeys. This isn't a static PDF or basic wireframe. You can tap through screens, test navigation flows, and experience how your app will feel before development begins.

We use AI-powered prototyping tools to create these quickly, typically within days rather than weeks. The prototype is yours to keep and share with stakeholders, investors, or your board. It's a powerful tool for gathering feedback and building internal alignment before committing to development.

Can you guarantee the development will cost what you quote?

We quote fixed prices for fixed scopes. If the scope we agree in the Gameplan doesn't change, neither does the price.

Changes happen, of course. If you decide during development that you want additional features, or if you change direction based on user feedback, that's new scope with new pricing. But there are no surprises on the agreed work.

Our Gameplan estimates have historically been accurate within 10% for projects that proceed without significant scope changes. We've built over 50 apps since 2017; we know what things cost.

How is this different from a free consultation?

A free consultation is a sales conversation. It's useful for initial fit and basic questions, but it can't give you the depth of analysis needed for confident decision-making.

The App Gameplan is a paid engagement with tangible deliverables. We commit significant senior resource (Solution Architect, Lead Developer, Project Manager) over four weeks. You receive detailed documentation you can act on, not a slide deck designed to sell you more services.

The Gameplan is designed for clients who are serious about building an app and need genuine clarity, not just a quote. If you're not sure whether you need a Gameplan or just a conversation, book a free 30-minute call and we'll advise honestly.

What happens during the discovery workshop?

The discovery workshop is a structured session where we dig deep into your business goals, user needs, and technical requirements. Typically, we ask you to bring key stakeholders: the project sponsor, someone who understands your users, and someone from IT if relevant.

We'll explore questions like: What problem are you solving? Who are your users, and what do they need? What does success look like? What existing systems need to integrate? What constraints (budget, timeline, compliance) do we need to work within?

You don't need to prepare extensively. Come ready to discuss your vision, and we'll guide the conversation.

Do you work with startups or only established businesses?

Both. The Gameplan is valuable for any organisation making a significant app investment and needing clarity before committing.

For startups, the Gameplan helps you present a credible plan to investors, validate your technical approach, and understand realistic costs before you run out of runway.

For established businesses, the Gameplan gives you the evidence and documentation your procurement process, board, or CFO requires before approving a major technology investment.

The deliverables are the same. The conversations during discovery adapt to your context.

What if we need to pause or reschedule?

Life happens. If you need to reschedule discovery sessions or pause the Gameplan mid-process, we'll work with you to find a solution. We understand that stakeholder availability and business priorities can shift.

We ask for reasonable notice where possible, but we're flexible. The goal is a valuable Gameplan, not rigid adherence to arbitrary deadlines.

Can the Gameplan fee be credited to development?

Yes. If you proceed to development with Foresight Mobile, your full £3,500 Gameplan fee is credited against your first development sprint. You've already invested in understanding the problem; we don't charge you twice for the same work.

This credit applies regardless of how long after the Gameplan you decide to proceed, as long as the scope hasn't changed significantly enough to require a new assessment.

What's included in the £3,500 fee?

Everything. The £3,500 covers all discovery sessions, technical analysis, architecture planning, estimation, documentation, and the final presentation. There are no hidden costs, no hourly overages, and no surprise invoices.

Specifically, you receive:

  • Discovery workshop (up to 3 hours with your stakeholders)
  • Technical feasibility assessment
  • Architecture and integration plan
  • Interactive clickable prototype
  • Prioritised feature roadmap
  • Fixed-cost development quote
  • Board-ready summary document
  • Final presentation and Q&A session

If your project requires significantly more complexity (multiple business units, dozens of integration points, regulatory compliance analysis), we'll discuss this upfront and agree any adjustment before starting.

How quickly can we start a Gameplan?

We typically have availability to start within 2-3 weeks. Book a 30-minute call to discuss your project and check our current schedule.

The Gameplan itself runs for 4 weeks from kickoff. Most clients receive their complete Gameplan pack within 5-6 weeks of their initial enquiry.

Is Flutter the right choice for every app?

Not always. Part of the Gameplan is an honest assessment of whether Flutter is the best fit for your specific requirements. If native iOS/Android development, a Progressive Web App, or another approach makes more sense, we'll tell you.

Flutter excels at cross-platform apps where you need iOS, Android, and potentially web from a single codebase. But some projects need deep hardware integration, platform-specific features, or have legacy constraints that make native development more appropriate.

We'll give you an unbiased recommendation based on your actual needs, not our preferences.

What if we decide not to build with Foresight?

No problem. The Gameplan is yours to keep. You can take it to any development partner, whether that's another agency, an internal team, or offshore developers.

We're confident that the quality of our Gameplan work speaks for itself. Most clients who complete a Gameplan do proceed with us, because they've seen how we think and work. But there's no obligation and no hard feelings if you choose a different path.

What if we already have designs or a specification?

Even better. We'll review what you have and identify any gaps, risks, or opportunities for improvement. The Gameplan adapts to where you are in your journey.

If you have wireframes, we'll validate the user flows and identify technical implications. If you have a detailed specification, we'll assess feasibility and refine the estimates. If you have previous agency quotes, we'll explain the differences and help you understand what's realistic.

The more preparation you've done, the more value we can add during the Gameplan process.

How the Gameplan Works

Know what to build, what it'll cost, and whether it makes sense.

A board-ready answer in 4 weeks, at a fixed price of £3,500.

You've got an app idea. You're not sure what it would cost, how long it would take, or whether it's even viable. That uncertainty is exactly what the App Gameplan resolves. You'll walk away knowing what to build, what it'll cost, and whether the numbers make strategic sense. The £3,500 fee is credited in full if you proceed to development.

Vision and Requirements Workshop

Get your idea out of your head and into a structured brief.

We run a focused workshop with your key stakeholders, typically 2 to 3 hours, to capture your goals, target users, success metrics, and must-have features. You don't need a technical spec before we start. We ask the questions that surface what actually matters and document the assumptions that need testing, so nothing critical gets missed when scoping begins.

Market and Technical Research

Know your competitive position and your technical constraints before you commit a penny.

We analyse the existing market: competing apps, their App Store ratings, gaps in their feature sets, and the pricing models that work. In parallel, we assess technical feasibility, evaluating whether Flutter, native iOS/Android, or a PWA is the right build approach, and identifying any third-party APIs, data sources, or integrations that could affect your scope or timeline.

Scoping and Architecture

A clear build plan replaces the guesswork that sinks most app projects.

We produce a MoSCoW-prioritised feature list, define your MVP scope, and create a technical architecture blueprint covering system integrations, data flows, and API strategy. This document is written to be handed directly to a development team. You get transparent, phase-by-phase cost estimates with no vague ranges and no hidden assumptions buried in the small print.

Gameplan Delivery and Presentation

A single document your board, investors, or procurement team can act on.

We deliver a board-ready summary covering opportunity, approach, investment, timeline, and key risks, then present it in a live Q&A session. You leave with a complete Gameplan pack: feasibility assessment, architecture plan, feature roadmap, risk register, and fixed-cost quote. All deliverables are yours to keep regardless of whether you proceed with Foresight Mobile.
